The Past
We Are Family began in the early 1990's as a small play group for a few lesbian moms and their children. By the
year 2000 the group had grown into a social support network of over 25 families of lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender parents and their children. As the community evolved, the group expanded and included educational
workshops for LGBT parents about financial planning, positive parenting skills and preparation for sending children
to school. We Are Family social events and workshops were created to help people form friendships with families
who will be supportive of the ups and downs that may be experienced in beginning a new family.
The Present
We Are Family is a local organization re-designed to meet the needs of LGBT families in Southern Nevada. It is our
goal to provide a convenient way to connect to other LGBT parents, to meet new friends and build our community by
offering fun and educational events to families from similar backgrounds.
If you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) parent or soon-to-be parent, you are not alone. We Are
Family offers you and your children a source of friendship and understanding. We Are Family was created to provide
a social outlet for the LGBT families in Southern Nevada as well as educational forums to help prepare LGBT families
for the joys of parenthood. If you are a soon-to-be parent or thinking about becoming a parent please come join us!
This is a great way to meet others who also may not have children but are moving in the same direction in life. You
may even learn something from those that are already parents.
